Killgirl Update

As some of you may have heard, or cleverly deduced from the phonecam pics over there in the right menu thing, Lori was in a accident on her motorcycle Saturday. She was involved in a head-on collision with another motorcycle (not her fault) and suffered a broken wrist, and heavy bruising around the thighs and pelvis. She was admitted to UT hospital for surgery on the wrist, and ended up with 5 screws, 2 pins, and 1 plate in there.

Recovery went pretty well, they did a great job of making her feel as comfortable as they could. She was in a bit of pain during the 2-day stay, but held in there like the trooper she is and we're back home now. It was her first accident, and she was having a hard time resting at the hospital without dreaming about crashing. Now weened from the stronger hospital meds, the gravity of what did and could have happened is really hitting her. During the trip home tonight, all of a sudden an oncoming vehicle sent her into a panic, and we just had to pull over and let it out. I don't think a single decent person would disagree that there is nothing sadder than seeing someone you care about crying.

The one thing that really helped her get through it, was reminding her of how many great friends and family that she has willing to help and do anything for her...it means more than you will ever know. To all of the friends and total strangers who were there for her that day, helping in any way they could, a very tearful thank you. To all of our friends on the forums sending their best wishes and encouragement, she reads them all and is tearing up again right now just overwhelmed that so many people care about her...it means so much right now...

Have fun, be safe, and PLEASE always wear your gear.

Good people have good family and friends there for them always and you two are a couple of the best folks around. You both have some loyal followers that are very concerned about you. Lori, we are so thankful that you came through this as well as you did, our thoughts and prayers are with you every minute of the day. You are in good hands with Darryl by your side, he has a heart of gold (from his mom's side I hear, hehe). Hope you get to feeling better real soon. We love you both! Love, Mom & Dad Cannon

Lori,

Keep your chin up kid!! What doesn't kill us, makes us stronger. A few months from now, you'll look back and shrug it off. You were obviously meant to stay with us. Besides, scars on chicks are hott!!! :)

Darryl,

Glad to hear Lori's going to be ok and glad it wasn't worse than it was. Not a good way to start the season. Well, I have to ask... what became of the cruiser rider?

Lori,

(raises glass of......milk)....here's to a speedy recovery and you will be back on 2 wheels in no time. The anxiety of the accident is normal. After mine I thought about wearing the helmet to bed! But it will eventually subside and you'll regain your faith in your surroundings and your abilities. Besides, wearing a helmet to bed kept giving me dreams of a sauna. (shrugs)

best of luck, you've got a lot of fans (and admirers) here in TX. Stick at it and hope to see you guys soon on the tail!

Lori,
Good luck and heal up. Remember that there are are two types of bikers. Those that have crashed, and those that will. Some get back on, some can't , some won't. All that really matters is that your OK, and still here. Everything else just takes time. I crashed back in Aug. and am still healing, p.t.,etc... It took alot to get back in the swing of things. But you really learn to appreciate your loved ones and friends. They will get you through it all. Hope to see y'all this summer on two wheels.

Lori,

So sorry to hear abt your accident.. Wishing you a speedy recovery dear.

Had a pretty bad accident myself almost 15 years back which totalled my fzr under a taxi cab - I can understand that it takes courage and time to overcome the foul experience and get back riding again. Please take your time and don't rush yourself. Your passion for riding (and Darryl) will eventually guide you back when you're ready ;-) Hope to see you back on the road again soon.

All the best wishes from NY

Lori, Hate to see you in such pain and so early in the season! I hope that you recover fast. It took me a while to get over my accident as well. I still won't get on the back of Jesse's bike because of it! That's part of the reason I got my own bike. Hope you recover for the Women's Sportbike Rally. If ya don't, we'll still let you watch. Kinda off subject, but will you and Darryl be coming to Indiana for the MotoGP? If so, give a buzz and we'll try to meet with you, maybe get some grub. Best wishes on that speedy recovery! Lori
I had a motorcycle wreck on 2/25/07I was flown to UT also. My goal was to get to ride the Dragon. I never reached my goal. I have rode it with my husband several time, but I wanted to ride it myself and put me a sticker on my bike. In the wreck a car came over the line on a curve I missed them, but I looked back(stupid I know) and when I looked up I side swiped the car behind her. My husband was riding behind me so he saw the whole thing. I went about 30 ft in the air came down. In the wreck I lost my heel bone. They tried to save it couldn't. So they amputated my left leg. (my gear changing leg). My knee was crushed so far I haven't been able to walk with out a walker. I was able to ride on the back of my husbands bike before my second surgury. After that I couldn't bend my knee enough to ride.
I still face a decision to amputate above the knee, and go back to work in 6 or 7 months. Or taking all the hardware out of my knee for 3 months, and if everything goes well trying a knee replacement. If I do that I risk loosing my job at the USPS because of a time thing. Because it will be 2 years since I worked. And I may still have an amputation.

Now I said all this to tell you this. Life is short and if you love to ride, you love to ride.
And I read this on a forum somewhere and it helped me.
But I guess I'm to stupid to be scared.LOL
But any way here it is

I REFUSE TO TIP-TOE THROUGH LIFE JUST TO ARRIVE SAFTELY AT DEATH!

I know it effects people diffrently. But if you need anyone to talk, too my e-mail is
tnmc2rs@yahoo.com, and I will give you my phone no. See if I can help you, cause sometimes it just helps to talk to someone who has gone through it.

Best wishes and speedy recovery from the Nashville crew who always enjoys your pics and stopping to chat with yall.

I had similar wrist injury in Oct. 04. (car attaked me!)plate and 9 screws, about 4 months of rehab. 2 months after surgery I could work a clutch again, so I went and put a depostie on an 05 fjr1300. I lost some fexibility. It came in the end of april and went out on a 4 state trip. Was glad to be able to ride again.

Yall took some great pics of me on that bike, thanks!!!

Take your time to heal.

Well Lori welcome to the weather predictors club. Thirty-five years ago I did the going down thing and got screws and a plate in my leg. I know what you are going through and it isn't easy but keep looking forward and live all the life the Lord gives you. May you have many more happy rides as I have.

Dear Lori:
There is an "up" side. You've made so many people happy at shows and on the Dragon, just by talking to them...we just have to care about you.
I pride myself on being able to explain just about anything, but I can't explain how a few photos and a short conversation with you at IBS a couple of years ago tickled me no end. You and Darryl have something wonderful, and it's continuing, and I grin all over at that.

And now you can get a new bike!

Get well soon! Very sorry to hear about your wreck. When I broke my collarbone playing softball of all things, I lost a lot of confidence. I was very careful and after a while I realized it was holding me back. So I signed up for soccer in a league known for tough play. (Guy logic right?) In about the third game, I beat a big bruiser to the ball and slowed down to control it and he didn't. All 6' 200+# of him landed on me at full speed. First thing I did was grab my collarbone and everything was all right. I jumped up and took off after him. After that I had my confidence back but I still don't take all the stupid risks I used to take. A few years later I dislocated my other collarbone playing soccer but this time I knew what to expect. My poor new wife did not though and it freaked her out when I called from the hospital to ask if she could pick me in a couple of hours. This time I went back to soccer after a season off and played until life just got in the way and I didn't enjoy it anymore.

Give yourself time and set small challenges for yourself. Enjoy your dogs amd look forward to spring. We can't wait to see you.
