Weekend Update - May 20-22, 2005

Well the photos are uploading into our store right now. We shot over 11,000 pics last week, so be prepared to dig. Sorry. Keep in mind that you can adjust how many thumbnails are displayed on a page by clicking on "show more options" in the upper-right corner. I'd go with something like "5 Across" and "20 Down" so you get 100 at a time.

Big update this week naturally. The cruisers dominated the numbers with police a close second. Most of the LEOs were reasonable, but we did get a few reports of some unprofessional treatment by some of the TNHP guys. One ordained minister friend of mine got the "GD" bomb dropped on him for 47 in a 30. Appearantly the trooper, who had just been kind enough to give Lori a lift that morning to where we were setup, thought he was trying to run from him on his off-road motorcycle. (which never left the road) A few others got stopped for stuff like 39 in a 30, etc. I've just received word that the TNHP is getting formal complaints, and they are investigating the actions of their troopers last weekend. Thank you Lieutenant Thomas!

Fortunately those numbers were in the minority, and most folks were left alone to enjoy the road. It rained pretty hard Friday, and a tornado touched down over in Maryville, but the weather cleared up for Saturday and Sunday and it was perfect. Hopefully this Memorial Day weekend will be pleasant. On to the highlights!

Out of pure curiosity, how long does it take for 11,000 pics to upload?

Darryl Cannon aka "killboy" said...

Well it has been going for about 12 hours now, and it's almost finished. It doesn't upload the full resolution photo, it generates the thumbnail and proof for each photo, uploads, then moves on to the next.

It took way longer to manually sort them. ;)

Thanks for the pics. Just ordered a few you took of my first time riding the Dragon.
It was lots of fun.

Great Job on the shots! Halfway through the cars you have a shot of a yellow Vette. It is an awesome shot. You can see the grade of the land, the snaking curves, and that dude is dead center on his lane. Excellent shot, excellent car, excellent driving. You caught the way it should be done by all.

Training pic that all should aspire too when on the Dragon- that being… Drive a cool car if you can, keep it dead center of the lines is a must, and KILLBOY will do the rest. ;-)

Something tells me that "anonymous" was driving a yellow Vette!

Nope, a Z...... But that picture of the Vette stood out as a great solitary car shot.

With 800 pics to look at, picking one of the best from a “picture” standpoint- that Vette shot would be in the running.

What day is the Corvette?
What is the number of the picture?
We all would like to see it!!!

Saturday, car pic 467

Good light, Yellow car with that yellow center snaking line and that location where you can really see the curves and lay of the land is what makes for a cool shot.

Not that they are bad, but IMHO shots with from the side with a red clay wall as the background don't give the feel of the road. You can get that kind of shot anywhere. But that snake action, now that is a money maker.

Agreed. Thanks for the input.

After being addicted to your web site, I rode the "Dragon" for the first time Saturday. It was well worth the 4 hour ride to get there. Killboy, Keith, Ron, Nancy and the rest of the gang, kudo's to all. The biker's are a better family due to your efforts.

I was down 2 weekends ago.
Usually 5 of us come frome Canada & it is always a blast.
Killboy, you are doing an awesome job both pics & educating.
Seeing as I do not ride the roads regularly the markings on the roads(yellow dots & slo sign are very helpful) we spell it slow in Canada :)
All of this talk about heavy enforcement is starting to worry me.
Just doing the math quickley while we are in your country we allow approx $200.00 per day (fuel, food accomodation, soveniers etc.)
200.00 x 5 days =1000.00
1000.00 x 3 guys = 3000.00
(sometime time 5 guys)twice a year!!!
This year the women want to drive down while the guys ride & stay at Fontana village for a week!
Sure seems like a lot of money into you economy!
Do the cops really think we are coming if they are going to harrass everyone.
There are a lot of other vacation destinations for us to go too.

"yellow dots & slo sign are very helpful"

I don't know about this stuff. What are the yellow dots and slow signs?????

Darryl Cannon aka "killboy" said...

There are yellow dots painted in the road before some of the worst turns, and often "SLO" is written in the road with chalk if there is an oil spill or temporary road hazard. So if you see anything unusual, ease up.

Killboy,
seein as how everyone is braggin on the job you're doin, i figured i'd throw in somethin too. I'm sure you know about it, but there's an article (3 page spread) on the "tail of the dragon" in the June publication of "Our State" which features a number of shots you've taken. Problem though, the photos are credited to "Darryl Conner." Don't know who that is :-) but i'm sure you can straighten it out. Just a F.Y.I.

Love the site!

I noticed that there are no pics for the 15th though... of course that's the day I rode the dragon!

Were none taken or are they hidden somewhere?

Thanks!

Darryl Cannon aka "killboy" said...

No hidden images, that wouldn't benefit anyone. ;) We didn't shoot that day...it rained until about 2pm here, so we just went into town and did some shopping/dining. Sorry baby, you'll just have to come back so we can try again!

Will do! Thanks

Awesome site & great photography! Nobody does panning shots the way you guys do. I love it and I must admit I'm a newcomer to your site. I saw you guys while attending the ZDayz event and you caught a few shots of me on The Dragon. This shot was used on the main page. http://photos1.blogger.com/img/55/3348/400/IMG_63281.jpg

You guys rock!!! Off to order my pics. :)
