I keep telling people: It's ALFA, not Alpha. As in Anonima Lombarda Fabbrica Automobili (in English, Lombard Automobile Factory, Public Company). When Nicola Romeo bought into the company in 1915, his name was added. When he left in 1928, his name stayed.
The sword/flag/serpent badge is derived from the symbol of the City of Milan. The laurel wreath around the outside symbolizes Alfa's World Championships.
Thus endeth today's sermon on Alfa, and not a minute too soon.
