How'd he get through the no-trucks route of NC?
What Flash said!!
What Lisa said.
They're not enforcing it, never have...NCDOT said last year they would be posting new stronger warning signs but still haven't yet. Gotta love bureaucracy.
Leaving aside the common sense of a ban (obvious), I wonder if NC could enforce it on a Federal highway. Especially if big rigs to the dams are allowed through.
If a driver were cited, I could see a letter from his employer FedExed to USDOT the next day. "It's a Federal highway, right? Where does NC get off telling us we can't use it?" Different from a purely local regulation saying "No Trucks."
Just thinking outloud here; no idea what the actual legalities are. Any big rig driver who has heard about the Dragon would avoid it, seems to me.
Just because a road is a US highway doesn't mean it cannot be truck restricted. What makes anyone think US129 is any different than these truck restricted US highways in NC:
BR US 17 Hertford to NC 37
US 19E Ingalls to NC 194
US 25/70 NC 251 to Hot Springs
US 52 jct. BR US 52 to Virginia state line
US 64 Franklin to Rosman
US 65 Logan to Westminster
US A74 Fairview to Bat Cave
Or these in Oregon:
US 20 OR 126 (Santiam Jct.) west to mile point 46.5
US 26 South of Austin to Vale
OR 27 Prineville to US 20
US 30 Celilo to Biggs
US 30 MOsier to US 197 east of The Dalles
US 30 NOrth Powder to Haines
US 30 in Portland metro area
Or these in Virginia:
US 15 Warrenton-jct. US 211 to jct. US 29
US BR 15 Warrenton-north at jct. US 15 to south at jct. US 15
VA 16 West Virginia state line to Tennessee state line
US 17 Deep Creek to I-64
US BR 17 jct. US BR 15 to US 211
US BR 28 jct. US BR 15 to jct. US 17, Warrenton
US 29 US 50 west jct. to US 50 east jct.
US 50 US 29 (Fairfax) to I-66
US 52 HIllsville to NOrth Carolina state line
US 58 Stuart to US 221
US 58 I-77 to Galax
US 58 VA 91 to US 11
US 58 VA 91 to Volney
US BR 58 jct. US 35, Courtland, to US 58
Bus. US 58 Lawrenceville to jct. US 58
The notion that being a US highway precludes truck restriction is simply false.
Well, alRIGHTy then... I stand duly corrected, and doubt not the truthfulness of Mark.
The next time a 53' van shows up on the Tail, he will be made an example of by the LEO's, and that will be the end of THAT...
Then we can petition TN to raise the speed limit to 55...
Good to know they can enforce a ban. On the other hand, even if they couldn't, they could site a driver for every single violation going through 129 which would be numerous.
