OK. That's just cool!
Why am I hearing the theme song to Speed Racer in my head now?

Badass. 300hp/ton.

Props to the owner--those were nearly impossible to street license 50-odd years ago.

Sad fact: James Dean had one of those on order when he died, and he only bought the Porsche that he was killed in because Lotus took too long to deliver.

I often wonder if he'd still be alive today otherwise....

Oops. Just realised that's a lotus 15 and Deans was a 10. Similar bodywork though.

Well, tigger, you forced me to get off my butt and look it up. The X was a revised VIII, which looks a bit different than the Eleven.
The 15 was "based on" the Eleven (but with larger Coventry Climax or twin-cam Fords). So what we could have here is an Eleven or a 15. Most likely a "tribute" car to either (the rear on this one and some other details are "not quite right" for an original Eleven or 15...).
Guess I've wandered far enough into the weeds here...

Kit for sure but still cool.

It is a kit car. The guy has been at a few Blount County British Car Club events.

Do you happen to know what he's got in it, Carla?
Would be a hoot with a Lotus-Cosworth in it, and a monster with a VTEC.
