A couple more things...

This Saturday morning the trash pickup by Deals Gap Resort and East TN Riders will take place between about 8am and noon.  If you'd like to help, more is always better, and I believe there is a breakfast thrown in there if you show up around 7am at the resort.  If you're riding/driving through that day, take it easy and give these folks some space if you see them roadside.

TDOT also came through and cleared all the leaves and rocks from the paved pull-offs last week.  I think it is the first time they've really been cleared since paving all of them nearly two years ago, so thanks for doing that TDOT!

(*April Fools joke* ;) And finally, you may notice some big purple devices mounted up in the trees about every couple of miles as you head toward and through the Dragon.  They are temporary speed cameras that are being used in a study to determine the best locations for permanent units.  Stay tuned as we will pass along any further information we receive...

So..What is the speed limit? LOL
65,35, safe and reasonable (try to define that on the Dragon)?

Speed cameras on the Dragon? Wow. Just goes to show that you can't have anything. Freedom? My ass! Don't get me wrong, I love my country and support it 100%, but true freedom is only available IN YOUR OWN HOME, and sometimes not even then. Can't even take a ride/drive down a remote country back-road without "them" watching you... Ridiculous.

I read an article recently and don't remember where I seen it, but they had speed cameras posted along a highway in N or S Carolina, and somehow it was deemed unconstitutional and all due to folks being issued tickets/citations via mail. The arguement was that tickets/citations must be presented to the offender by an actual person of law enforcement (not by a camera, and certainly not by U.S. Post) as there is almost no way of clearly identifying the driver. They also argued that the cameras were solely put up to boost local revenue... Well, no shit! (Do they think coppers actually care that you're speeding? Of course not! They bust you for speeding to meet a quota. There is only a quota to justify the offficers salary, and to boost local revenue!) So, what did they do? They put an officer of the law in a van just up from the camera. His job was to watch the camera catch speeders, and somehow that made it all better.

???????????????????????????????

From what I see, what y'all actually need on ye olde Dragon is:

"Left of Center Camera"

watch-out for "Stoplight Cameras",
as some drivers who would normally, safely, and legally go through a "yellow" because they were to close to stop safely, will now stand on the brakes at the first sign of yellow, causing rear-enders.

There is a "anti" speed camera spray you apply to your license plate/s, it causes a glare when big brother takes your pic, making your tag # mostly illegible ;o)

Are you sure the purple boxes are not there to watch for bugs and you are pulling our legs with an April Fools Joke???

Here in WI the DNR puts these big purple boxes in the trees to monitor Gypsy Moths which are beginning to be a big problem by us. Maybe they are monitoring the same thing by you or some other bug? There are usually signs that say not to disturb them.

re: anti camera spray. Tested on MythBusters, doesn't work at all!

I saw these purple boxes up there today, Several in fact, Seems they picked really good spots too where there is usually a good strait within sight. I wonder if there BULLET PROOF, I sure hope so. Oohh n Just wheelie past them then they cant see your tag, No problem.

Thanks for the INFO Darryl :)

Thanks on that info google.

Gypsy Moth Bad. Those little forkers can decimate forest/woodland in a nasty way, was a big problem up this way many years ago.

For all you April fools:

It was an April fools =) However, there are purple devices in the trees. They are part of a study of the Emerald Ash tree..or something like that. For information you can go to www.PurpleEABsurvey.info.

Hubby n I were on the clean up detail Saturday with MG and some of the others...and I just want to say...there are a lot of nasty people out there throwing stuff out of their cars or off their bikes...some of the things that were found...
Dirty diaper, underwear, beer bottles and whisky bottles (really you need to drink it ON the dragon too), countless bottles of pee...in addition to the usual, bottles, cans, food wrappers, bike parts and more. Some brainiac actually bagged up all the trash from his car and tossed it down the hill. REALLY?

and dude ranting about the speed camera (april fools joke)...you're on a state highway...why would you have privacy?

Good one D. ;)

Thank You to all the trash cleaners. Such a shame that it has to be done at all. "Cain't fix STUPID"- Ron White

We don't want privacy in public. We just don't want someone looking over our shoulder every where we turn. Pretty soon we'll be getting tickets for shitting in the woods while camping.
