Funny thing, though...they really did hang something like those on I-70 in Ohio. Never did figure out what they were for. I think it had something to do with investigating bugs (like mosquitoes).

The Wisconsin DNR tracks Gypsy Moths with them, which are NO GOOD!!! The purple box has a sticky substance on it to trap any bugs that touch it. So maybe there is a species of bugs moving in that are bad for the area. There are usually signs that say do not disturb it.
Emerald Ash Borer, is the critter being studied. Wnd while we're at it, don't move firewood, that is one of the major ways it spreads.
