My S2k peeps were out playing...

Always well-behaved, I'm proud to be associated with this bunch. Sorry I wasn't representin', driving the Evo instead. Rear bearing or rear diff is making some kind of squeaking/grinding noise. :(

Sounds like a universal joint if there's grinding AND squeaking.

Hey Darrel, 18 year Honda tech here. The S2's will make weird noises when the trough out bearing is going bad. Sounds like a bad bearing in the rear end. Weirdest thing in the world. Check that out before you tear the rear end out of it. BTW I race a S2 in the NASA series. Great little race car platforms.

Thanks for the info zeppfan, I'll keep that in mind. I just replaced the right-rear bearing recently, and it was a PAIN without the specialty ball-joint tool, but I heard they can fail again in very short order. Crazy considering how huge the wheel bearings are for such a light car...they're bigger than my Evo wheel bearings!

Oh, and this sound only occurs when you are neutral on the throttle...not on it or off it, just kinda in the middle cruising.

Put it on a lift and listen to the trough out arm with a stethoscope. I have had two come in that I could have sworn it was the pinion bearing but turned out to be the trough out bearing. Does the noise change going around corners? Loading or unloading the rear end bearings?
