so very true!! especially the black r1s. just traded my 05 fz1 for a new leftover 08 black R1. traded on sept 5th at abernathy cycles in union city tn, seated the rings from princeton ky to maryville tn that same evening, which is 298 miles. left p-ton ky with full tank of gas, rode to lynnwood tn, 148 miles, gassed up and was back on road in 8 minutes, next stop was at exit 365 on I40, pulled over and put my feet down for about 30 seconds to stretch my legs, then went on maryville to hotel. next day, went trout fishing and worked on buddies truck, then monday off to ride the dragon and head back to princeton. and they say sportbikes are uncomfortable!! rode 875 miles that labor day weekend on a new bike, with probably 400 on labor day when i rode the dragon, then rode home non stop except for gas. i'm 6 ft tall and 180, and i believe i can do this only on a sport bike due to back aches. sport bikes offer many different riding positions once on the big road, instead of sitting upright on your but all the time. plus they are fun on curves, have extreme straight line acceleration, and are easy on gas. they are truly beautiful bikes, and i love riding mine.

oh yeah, that whole weekend, my temporary tag was under the seat in case it rained, so it had no plate on it. i figured i was sure to get stopped by leo on the dragon, or the interstate one, but luckily, no one stopped me. before i got to nashville, the bottom fell out of the clouds, and we passed numerous touring bikes and cruisers sitting under bridges. my friend and i just tucked in behind our screens and kept on riding back to ky. there was actually 4 of us that came to ride the dragon, but due to weather, 1 rode home sunday morning, another one who hauled his bike down and was having problems with his truck, left on monday morning, and my other friend and i headed to the dragon in the rain. b4 we got there, the rain stopped, the roads dryed, the sun came out, and we enjoyed the ride. i hadnt been there since memorial day weekend in 08, and hated to leave. you locals are very fortunate to live close to a road like this. i hope I3 doesnt disturb this great road.

Hey fzrwon, Sounds like a great trip. I live just up the road from P-ton in Shady Grove. We've got a great ky forum at kentucky-sportbikes.com, check it out. My user name is the same as here.

didnt know that! i will definitely check it out. it was a great trip considering everything that went wrong. heading out, saturday morning, 1 buds truck acting up, another bud fell face first on i40 or i24 while trying to fix truck, took all the hide off his nose, later on, his bikes fuel cap had a come apart, it was raining next day, {sunday} so he headed back to p-ton. the bud with truck problems, well, we worked on his truck most all day sunday, got it fixed, then the keys got locked in truck while our kids were fishing with us in mountains. we destroyed his antenna and door weatherstripping trying to get truck unlocked. then unlocked the door with a kawasaki key. got up monday, raining again, he was afraid to ride the dragon in the rain with all the bad luck he'd been dealt. loaded his bike, our fishing gear, 2 kids, and drove home. me and 4th bud, we rode dragon, then came home on bikes. me and 4th bud went back in truck the following friday night with our sons, took us until sunday at noon to find we weren't trout fishermen. aint right to go there without the bikes! 2 good trips any way you look at it. on the first trip, we rode an 08r1, a 03 or 04 zx6rr, an 07 v-star, and hauled fishing gear, 2 kids, and a v65 magna in a truck.
