Weekly Update -August 5, 2009
Photos from the last 6 years are available in Our Store here. These are some of the highlights from last week.
Fairly busy last week, with lots of sportscars in the area. No major incidents until Sunday, when a lady from Canada lost control of her bike near Shadetree turn and ran across the road striking a tree. She held in for a little while but didn't make it to the hospital apparently. Our thoughts are with her family and friends...I can only imagine how sad they are right now. Let's be careful out there y'all, and remember it can take a LONG time for help to arrive out here.
Only group on the calendar this weekend is our Sky/Solstice friends. A couple of upcoming events to mention though:
First is a Dragon Safety Awareness Day at the Deals Gap Motorcycle Resort Saturday from 10am to 5pm, which couldn't be more appropriate considering the recent rate of accidents. There will be local police and highway patrol officers contributing, along with experienced riders discussing safety gear and roadway etiquette. Wish I could be there.
There is also a benefit poker run around the area Saturday for a local girl with a terminal lung condition. This is not a bar-hopping thing, and all proceeds go directly to her family to help cover medical costs. I don't know her personally, but from what I've heard she is braver than I could ever dream to be. I was told she refused a lung transplant because it would not cure her condition, only buy her time, and it may save another person's life. She graduated high school here just this year, and had to be brought to the graduation ceremony by ambulance. She is not expected to live much longer.
A paypal donation account has been setup for her at j_shiver03@yahoo.com (gotta copy/paste that email address into paypal) and I hope you can donate something for a nice person and her family. Details on the ride, in case you are in the area, are as follows:
