Well, at least the rain will help put it out.

very funny. It was the early model 4 cylinder that caught fire (84-85ish) because of the oil pan not holding enough oil). This one looks to be a V6 - 2m6 version maybe (note front bumper, but not the fastback)

Smooth Black side Molding 87 or 88 model, Cant tell what motor from this angle but could be a 4cyl or 6cyl.
Another way to Narrow down what year it is. The Rear subframe was changed in 88 moving the parking brake cable which is visible across the bottom of the Ebgine carraige in earlier models.

The Engine fires to My understanding were from a faulty weld on the exhaust header, As it seemed this was a recall for all 5 Prod years..

I miss my old Fiero, Fun cars.

I had an 86 2m6 with the 4 speed manual tranny. This one has GT front bumper, no slant back like the GT. This one looks to have the formula wheels but it could have been a later model change from my 86.

One problem I found:

Connecting rods were built poorly, broke through the engine and caused fires as did wiring problems and leaks. My cousin's recall on his 4cyl was for a bigger oil pan to keep something internally from heating up and sparking the fire in the oil pan area.

I loved mine. 200k and only had issues with headlight motors and a fuel pump at about 120k.

I read a while back that if Pontiac had brought back the Fiero instead of creating the Solstice, they would still be around.

Personally, I agree with that, but it's a very subjective statement.

A Rear/Mid Engine Solstice would have been great.. Can you Imagine..

Chubert.. "I had an 86 2m6 with the 4 speed manual tranny. This one has GT front bumper, no slant back like the GT. This one looks to have the formula wheels but it could have been a later model change from my 86"
1986 was the transition year. Halfway thru they quit using the 4spds and put in Isuzu 5spd trannys. Also started changing the front nose for specific models. The GT is the only model that ever got the "Slant back" Look. The photo has the GT nose as the Formula didnt have the front Bull Nose look.

Lots of changes on those cars the 5yrs they were made. if they were made today do you think they would be any lighter with a V8 in the Back?

Also gotta love the Jiffy lube tech when they come out n ask you "Where is the motor" LMAO
