Great pic - this is Buprestis decorus, one of the metallic wood-boring beetles. First described by Johan Christian Fabricius, a Danish protege of Linnaeus.

At first I thought Louise was spewing maximusbullshiticuss... LOL but Louise is correct. I think decorus is exchangable for "Jewel" or "Golden" which is a common name for this beattle as well. It looks like Buprestis aurulenta or Buprestis (Stereosa) splendens niponica; which I beleive is the same as Buprestis decorus.

The really AMAZING thing is that I can't find a better picture of one ANYWHERE! KB, you might have the best shot EVER of this little beetle.

In all seriousness (I think I spelled that correctly?)....you may want to give them a call....a really good picture IMHO...way better than my effort with that damned Wooly Adiljid!
