Nice. Most of us would be thrilled just to get a shot with lightning in it. Your's is perfectly framed using the rule of thirds.

Lori did it! (well I set the camera up for her, but she stood out on the front porch in the rain to get it) It took several blank shots to get this one...the result of setting the camera on a tripod, 20 second exposure, and hoping something happens within the frame.

If you don't mind my asking; what ISO and apeture did you use for this? I love doing fireworks, and hope to get at least one good lightning shot at some point.

ISO is low, I believe around 100. Reason being we want to run a long exposure without getting grainy, and lightening is plenty bright enough to be picked up by the imaging sensor at low ISO. (I had to darken this quite a bit actually)

Fireworks should be doable at low ISO as well, but I've found that exposures of more than 10 seconds can gather TOO much movement/streaking...not from camera shake, just from all of the arcs of light combining into one shot. It's nice at times, but for the most part an exposure of 2-5 seconds at the right moments gives a much sharper and realistic image.

Thank you very much! I will say I got lucky with a very very active lightning storm. I have tried some more since and got very little. Lori did A good job to get this shot!
