Tires off the road can result in damage to the car...
...not to mention the gravel it kicks up causing people to crash, bringing out the police and ambulances.

Hah! I know I wasn't in the gravel. None of the rocks made it up into my fender. I did cut the hell outta that corner though. :D
And I was just trying to give the rider going the other way plenty of room. :P
