Weekly Update - March 20, 2008

Uploading photos from last week to Tha Store here.

Slow start to the season, with sketchy weather making it hard to get more than a day or two of riding in. This weekend looks really nice though.

Everyone wants to know how the cops have been, and so far it's been pretty uneventful. They're out there sometimes, usually 1 or 2 units, and sometimes they're not. Either way it's business as usual...a few people fall down, most are just enjoying a great American highway. Not sure when that became such a crime.

Lori is still healing, her arm hurts now and then of course, and trying to sleep in a comfortable position with the brace on is difficult. She went out with me last weekend to hang out while I shot and try to get over the anxiety attacks that bring her to tears whenever we try to go through during the day. Five seconds after we park to shoot, some rookie goes around the (blind) turn with his sportscar completely in the wrong lane...followed just a few minutes later by another. Needless to say Lori was a wreck...luckily for them she was the only casualty. Our friends had a chat with them and they seemed to understand the error of their actions. Thanks guys, and to all those who go the extra mile to address problematic drivers and riders...you all are saving lives.

If you have a hard time approaching someone without getting confrontational, try the three question method:

Are you having fun? (let them answer)
This is a cool thing we have here isn't it? (let them answer)
What do you think it would take to screw it up?

While they ponder that last one, point out their actions and see if they agree. Most people will suddenly realize how dangerous they've been and straighten up.

Or you can just walk away after that third question. ;)

Ok enough preaching, on to the highlights!

Congratulations to Lori for being able to face the Gap. It must have taken enormous courage on her part. Best wishes on her continued recovery.

First off, glad to hear Lori is healing up.

Secondly, I find your Q&A session idea a great one. Hope it works out, because we all know what a great thing this place/road/mountains are to us

Lori,
Glad things are getting better.
It will take a long time to get back to normal. I'm proud that you are making the effort.

Good idea about the Q&A, Poor driving seems to be the norm everywhere now.
