They were running 1:10s and one was running 1:09s!


Only 4 hours on the track and smashed the previous track record by nearly 11 seconds. They were testing some new (to Indy cars) technology as well, like paddle-shifted synchronized gearboxes and variable ratio steering racks.

I assume they run a different layout than the Superbike guys?

exact same circuit as AMA and the Porsche 250

Yeah Barber doesn't really have multiple layouts that I'm aware of.

Then what times did the superbikes turn? 70 seconds sounds like a pretty short lap.

AMA best times run from about 1:25 to 1:29. The Indy cars were about 15-17 sec/lap quicker than the AMA guys.

Eh, when the PKV Champ Car team came to test, they had old cars, two rookies that had never seen the cars or the track, and they were turning 1:06s. IRL has done nothing to impress me but suck.
