Weekly Update - July 4, 2007
Hope everyone is having a great holiday! Last weekend was pretty slow up on the Dragon, with Honda Hoot the week before, and holiday this week, plus police everywhere. I heard they wrote a few goofy tickets, like license plate BS, but mostly they were stopping people getting a little too carried away for mid-day weekend traffic. Expect to see police nearly every day for the next few months.
This weekend will see the big Lotus 7 gathering (7/7/07...get it?) and Porsche club.
Quick thanks to DGMR for letting MG escort the semi through last weekend.
On to the highlights!

I was down for my anual pilgrimage this last week. I have gotten to the point where I avoid the gap on the weekends. Saw alot of inexperianced riders & cops. There are so many that cut left handers it makes me sick. I saw a group of cruisers gathered at beginners end, apparently some one took too much speed from wheelie hill and rode it off the edge. Seen another group of cruisers gathered for another one off the road about half way thru. Saw one overloaded cruiser with a passenger fall over at the stop sign....took 4 people to lift it back up. This was all on saturday June 30th. I did manage to escort a semi thru early in the day, it appeared that he knew what he was doing as he had little problem negotiating the pass. Then I saw a semi wedged, I think it was tuesday. Got a good laugh as a VW rode thru the ditch to get around him. Anyway, just wanted to throw 2 cents in. If you are new to riding motorcycles the gap is a tuff place to learn. There should be some general thoughts posted at Deals Gap like: Don't cross the double yellow unless you are passing & have a clear spot to do so. Keep an eye on your mirror, if someone catches up to you move right to the white line in a straight & slow down as to allow others to pass. If you want to sight-see then BRP or Cherahola is the place to be, the gap has no sights to see other than the road. 3 simple things will make everyones pass more enjoyable.
Peace out
Nicely said! I avoid the weekends now as well; it's not worth the hassle and I have just as much fun riding and finding other roads less congested, etc.
Maybe we'll cross paths on the Dragon during the weekdays, but in-the-mean-time, ride safe, and return safe!
