I like that plait...

That's a damn good looking woman, and I'd really hate to see what would happen to all that skin after a minor "get off." She needs a jacket and gloves at a minimum.

cute, but put on some leather, stay cute after an unfortunate incident.

You know, I was on the Dragon for my first time over the 4th of July and it is indeed a GREAT place and I will be back. Most everybody was in a good mood and having fun. But you f*ckers that think you are the "king of the dragon" kill me. I'll agree with you that riding left of the yellow line is not only unnecessary, but stupid, but let people wear what they want. I wasn't there to set any land speed records and I was riding in jean, tennis shoes, T-shirt and no glove.
I generally ride off road and gear up for the occasion, but that is my choice. You've got a great thing going on there and if you want to somehow close it off to the public and then require "gear" and sign a wavier then more power to you, but until it becomes something other than a public road.........Shut the f*ck up about the gear.

Hey Bruce, easy brother . . . most of these guys and gals carp on ATGATT because they know what happens when you don't. Some from personal experience, others because they see it regularly. These are the same guys/ gals who help pick your parts, motorcyle and otherwise, out of the woods if you crash and there have been a lot of pix of crashes here. So they know. Yeah, it can get strident, but it's with good intentions for safe riding. Plus, there's nothing like a good-looking woman on a bike in a leather jacket . . .

Bruce, yeah and you jack-as*'s that come down to our mountain, ride 15 damn miles an hour looking all over the place like it's a sightseeing tour, tossing gravel on our road, and generally riding like a flatlanding know it all jerk off, just KILL me too!! Please Bruce, forget about that trip back, TRSUT me we don't want you here and you won't be missed!

It don't matter what you wear as long as you ride within your means and keep an eye on your mirrors for faster riders. Then at the next straight ride the white line & slow down. It's those that ride past their abilities without gear that are in for the rude awakening.

Hey doubleshit. You're setting a very poor example in representing all the other good people I met down there. In fact, when I look at the majority of the pictures other than the ones that end up on the front page, it seems that most of the other "tourist" don't seem to be decked out in kevlar suits. So if you indeed don't want us to bring our money down to Deals gap area, that's fine. I hope you can help Darryl find other employment and then when the money runs out you and your other whiskey running buddies will be able to see just how fast you can go on 129 when it turns back into a gravel road.
PS. I'm just having fun with you, but you're still a d!ck.

I agree what vmaximum says. if you ride with in your means, there is no reason for leathers in 90 deg weather. Hey double shot. I was on your mountain lsat week, guess what, had to slow down several times for a crotch rocket in front of me and it had NC plates, and I was on a cruiser.

I ride a sportster there Badass, and have also had to slow down or pass plenty of sport bikes, but they were riding within their means and so was i, so it was all good. Never said it was MY mountain, said it was OUR mountain, as in the people of Tennessee and N.C that pay the taxes that built and maintain the road and those of us that ride it daily (not once a F'n year then wanna act like they know all.. Bruce) Tell you what Bruce, trust me when i say that i do represent a LARGE number of locals when i say stay the F away, Daryll will do just fine without your 5 dollars, in case you don't know the bike thing isn't his only gig, and even if it was there will allways be plenty of riders on the mountain for him, and the copycat photog's to make their money. More i think about it Bruce, you should deffinitely stick to riding in tennis shoes and t shirts, i look forward to riding past what's left of you when you go down. Oh n one last thing genius, tourist money doesn't pay for the road, LOCAL money does, so we'll be running moonshine on nice smooth pavement long after you are out of intensive care and the skin grafts have healed.
To those who continue to push the virtue of good gear, Keep it up, y'all are just trying to help save lives!

Those who ride past their abilities are in trouble period but proper gear does offer some measure of prevention and protection. Wearing proper gear will not fully protect a head-on or sideswipe, etc. collision with other objects such as the big trucks on this road, or the ever increasing over-the-line traffic meatheads, or with the impact to solid rock, trees, etc., but it's better than riding with nothing at all.
Bruce, I hope you enjoyed your trip into the Dragon playground, but I would suggest you use a less challenging tone in your comments on this blog as the quick-to-temper often retaliate with more offensive, and less intelligent measures; no one needs to read all the stupid insults and personal attacks on this blog. Lets all get along, obey the road rules, and have fun!
Be safe everyone and enjoy the ride!!!

And yes, I am an ATGATT believer, practitioner, Nazi, and whatever other insults may be thrown my way for saying it on this blog. I do believe in freedom of choice, and wish no ill will towards ANY rider regardless of machine or gear they happen to have. I've made my choice in machine and gear and feel comfortable with it; I ride within my means and skill level; I obey the traffic laws and generally enjoy the people I meet while biking.
Peace to all.
Rant over.

wow. this turned out to be a terrible way to compliment the hot chick....

Anyway, I am not a local rider, I've only been there once. I ride a cbr 1000rr and got smoked by a local on an enduro....CRY,but, I got my knee down over a dozen times and that was good enough for me.

But, back to the point. i agree in the fact that bruce is an asshat. If you guys dont preach safety, who will. Its never good practice to ride without proper gear, especially at the gap. And yes, pulling over for faster traffic is a must. There is nothing wrong with suggesting proper gear.

All I can say is, Bruce, do not go back to the gap. stay far, far away. your money is not needed. the gap was there long before you and will be long after you. You should show a certain amount of respect to the people that have lived there and know the road. How would like people coming into your back yard and start cussing at you for your opinion. So again, please stay away.

PS. Please dont hold all non-locals in the same regard as this douchebag, we are not all like this. most of us appreciate the job that is done by killboy and respect the opinons of the locals.

Cheers G

PS: Whats ATGAT?

Unknown said...

Hey Gavin, don't know if the cutie/hottie will be around to tour you, but if she sees this blog, maybe she will say Hi! And the acronym ATGATT stands for "All The Gear All The Time".

Look forward to seeing you in 2009! When you going to be here (month/day)?
Oh and remember, we ride on the wrong side of the road over here (just having some fun with you gavin)!

Ride safe in Australia!

Short story on gear for Bruce and other NON-gear believers. Four-Lane highway, headed to work, 65MPh speed limit, doing that or maybe 70 on a STRAIGHT part of the highway, start to get passed by a girl in the fastlane (come to find out, she was a nurse)this hwy was divided by a 25 foot grassy median (not just a double yellow line, such as the Dragon...) Well a lady, running late getting her son to a pre-school band meeting, lost control of her car, slid through that median and hit Amber (the nurse) head-on at over 80 mph. Right before impact, Amber, seeing the car come at her, swerved to avoid the impact. Well, I was right where she swerved. I had the most typical sport bike gear on, jacket, gloves, boots and lid w/ blue jeans (which does nothing but help the road rash) Now, I wear full gear. I said this was on a straight, I was on a 2005 slvr/blck CBR600RR (not bragging, but I could ride the wheels off of it) Now the most important part of this lesson, I NEVER SAW THE WRECK COMING! I come to my senses 2 weeks later, not even remembering getting out of bed that morning. I'll say this, considering I was around 65 mph, on two wheels (let alone I was known to hit the rev limiter on 1 wheel at 130 in 2nd gear) I was WELL within my abilities. Cars (and bikes) are a lot more likely to cross that line at the Gap, than where it happened to me... I don't care how well folks can ride, we can all, never tell how good a driver or rider coming the other way is.... Great thing about this country, you do have the right to choose.

CAN WE ALL JUST GET ALONG. We are all there for one reason. We enjoy riding. If your there trying to lay into the curves (scraping a knee) or just enjoy the scenery. Its just the fun of riding.

Hey Gavin,

Come in August of '09 and you'll find plenty of women to show you around at the 4th Women's Sportbike Rally! ;)

Hopefully if this gal decides to come this August she'll consider a bit more gear but in the end it's still her choice. Just not something I would consider riding without on the Dragon or back home in SE Ohio.

Ride safe everyone!

halmcgee said...

I'll chip in five bucks to buy her the gear!
I bet she just bought the bike and is saving for the gear. I don't know about you but my car is a multi-year project and I bet most people took years to get all the gear. Hard not to want to have fun even without all the gear.
