Back from Floriduh after watching the 24 hour Rolex endurance races at Daytona. Pics below.
It was my first time spectating an endurance race, and it was quite a workout. Like Jacob said, there is a certain amount of endurance to just spectating the thing. The race complex is huge, and we didn't have a golf cart or anything, but we really wanted to check out every corner of the place and bring you guys a variety of pics. Lori made a good point when it was all over...it would not have been as much fun if we weren't shooting for the website.
It's tough to shoot as a spectator though. We've gotten use to having those media privileges, so shooting from farther away, through FENCES, makes it a lot harder to get those great shots. Luckily Daytona has a great variety of spectating areas, and a few fellow enthusiasts even let us use their vehicles as platforms to shoot over the fence...thanks y'all!
A pretty strong storm blew in Saturday night and we piled up in the tent for a few hours of sleep. What happened next is forever etched into my fleeting memory...for now. We were all awakened by the sound of the tent being ripped apart. The front wall was laying down flat, almost against our faces. So Lori and I went outside into the driving rain to find that the tent was not damaged at all. The wind was just blowing so hard, our new domicile was being pushed down nearly flat. It's a fairly tall Coleman 8-man dome job we just picked up the week before, and that height, combined with the fact that we were situated on the leading edge of the campgrounds in relation to wind direction, was making it do some amazing contortions. But, as soon as the wind eased up, the dome would pop right back up like nothing had happened. We finally just gave all the cheapy steaks a once over with the hammer, and hit the sack. It was still standing when we woke up. (although the jackass twins bailed the F out first thing in the morning and went home...sissies!)
Rest of the race was in beautiful sunlight. I wanted to watch the last couple of hours of the race from the grandstands, which we had not been to yet, so we journeyed from the infield around to the highest point...it involved a sherpa and pack mule. Lori just LOVES heights, so it was a mental workout as well for her.

the 9500i looks sweet. though the 8500 x50 still does more then enough. and here's something that's been posted on several forums. never did get the original link. seems to be a little more stern the previous years

engine009: I have the x50. The 9500i is the first real advancement in radar detectors I've seen in a LONG time. It uses GPS to track your movement, and adjusts accordingly. Think about it...no more blaring alarm when you're just driving through the parking lot of Wal-Mart. Plus, it learns where the false alarms are in your normal route with a little input from you, and ignores them afterwards. That's long overdue.

You really think the "rice rockets" frequently cause OTHER people to crash?

You really think it's smart to allocate hundreds of man hours and thousands of taxpayer's dollars to patrol a road that claims an average of less than 2 lives a year?
well the 9500i is real nice but for my bike the 8500 x50 and the H.A.R.D. install will be enough. I hoping the 9500i is gonna push down prices of the x50 too
scenery? on the gap? where? I haven't seen any. Oh well if they won't to crack down on the speeders... by all means they can do that but when someone calls for a police officer for a robbery and it takes the officer 45 mins to get there maybe they will realize placing people in a remote area for a few speeders is... mis allocation of funds.
but we are all entitled to out opinions...
Off topic I know, but for those of you that want to know the "mystery trike" has been identified. I posted with that pic the new info on it...
Sounds like a wannabe hotshot captain with an eye for added revenue and sensationalism. Or just a rumor.
Good situation for a little electronic counter surveillance.
