*UPDATE* TDOT has responded and they will be addressing the pull-off areas next week. Thanks to all who wrote in!
A car pulled off the road, probably to let some bikes go by, and busted their oil pan open in the process, leaving a trail of oil through the rest of the Gap. The drop-off from pavement to gravel is getting pretty tall. I'm going to contact TDOT about it and recommend they pave the pull-off areas on this 11 mile section or at least re-gravel them. Imagine how nice it would be if they were paved and signed as you approach...there would be so many less accidents.

See! I told y'all it was dangerous to pull off the road anywhere except the overlook! But nooo, Byteman is an a'hole because he won't pull off onto the shoulder to let the time-trialers go by...
Well, those of you that yield when it's reasonable certainly make for a better experience and are greatly appreciated. Hopefully if enough of us voice a concern we can reap the benefits of better pulloffs. I've damaged the exhaust on my bike at that particular pulloff before, so I feel his pain.
