Weekly Update - June 21, 2006

Shots from last week are available in our store here. Weekend shots are still uploading.

Last weekend was pretty nice, and the crew from Speed TV was running around shooting the pilot for their new "Superbikes" show which will replace Greg's Garage on Tuesdays. First show will air on June 27th and I assume it will feature a lot of footage from the Dragon and surrounding areas.

We had our first fatalaty last Tuesday though. A new rider to the Gap was going a little too fast at the end of a fast section and the tight turn was too much for him. Our condolensces to the family. Y'all please take it easy out there as you learn the road, and remember those fast sections end with tight turns, so keep the speed down.

We're also getting some attention from the NCHP for the rest of the year. Apparantly they will be around for about one weekend a month through the riding season due to the increasing number of fatalaties on NC...despite the fact that Graham County only had ONE last year and the rest of the state had 119 the year before. I'd say that IF the bean counters would take into consideration the high concentration of motorcycles we have in this little area, it is one of THE SAFEST places to ride in the whole state. I guess it's just too easy to pick on bikers when they're packed into a small area like this.

Maybe if they were honestly concerned about safety, they could do something about these guys/gals?

The rider who died (he was there with the R6/R1 convention) was not new to the Dragon, it was is second trip there. It was however is first run for this year.

RIP.

wow definetely an odd article... I like how 75mph is considered to be such an absurd speed... on the straights that's achieved so easily and in no ways unsafe as far as I'm concerned....

I would've liked to have been in the meeting where the NC motorcycle cops pitched it to their superiors that they should have to patrol the GAP every weekend. HA!!!

I agree with what you said. So many happen because of what cagers do but it's always assumed to be the bikers fault. Those reckless kids!! I'd like to see a well written article with no bias be published some day... Maybe that'll happen sometime before I grow old and am done with bikes (I'm 23 so they have awhile)
