With a hammer?
Yup, and a small 'chick tool' hammer at that. The alternator on a 1.8T VW motor is wedged under the intake manifold and throttle body, takes a bit of 'persuasion' to get it to seat properly. Plus after dicking around with it for a few hours it just feels good to give it a few whacks.
