Anonymous said...

it isn't wether or not you wear "cool gear or not" it is how you ride and if you endanger others due to your riding..and this guy was definately endangering others

Well Donnie is it? I have as much right to post my opinion as you or anyone else, so here it is.

I don't think that anyone really cares what gear the guy in the photo is wearing. If you look at the pic you will notice that the guy is on the WRONG side of the road. I am the person who took the photo that you see above. The guy was in the wrong lane pulling a nasty pass on another bike. You are right, he has the right as much a anyone else to enjoy the road and that is what we want him to do. We just don't want him to hurt himself or anyone else by being in the wrong lane. I don't want to be coming down the road in my lane and be hit by this guy, do you? No one at the Gap is perfect, but can't we all just have respect for the other riders and drivers out there? Is it really that much to ask?

Anonymous said...

you know what, you do have right to an opinion. but you know you cant control everybody and what they do.And I understand that all you are trying to do is make the road safe but you gotta understand that not everybody cares. and that going in the WRONG lane is wrong but that is a risk that some poeple take.and that you cant stop that

you aren't putting anything in my mouth, if you wish to be a danger to those upon the dragon then don't come or come at a time when there is virtually no traffic..say from 6 am to 10 am or any time after 600 pm..and if these words piss you off. than you need to just step back and learn to breathe a lil bit. and yes if enough people let the others know that it isn't ok to ride that way or drive that way they will get the hint and leave..save the threats of physical violence for the school yard

Donnie,

I will be at the Gap today, most of the day. I will be will Darryl so why don't you stop by and we'll have a chat.

Yeah I know that not everyone cares, but they should. Ya know it is just sad when a loved one is no longer with us because someone didn't care. How would you like to lose someone close to you say, Um a girlfried or wife, your child, parents, grandparents, close friends. I have had a friend taken from me because someone didn't care. This is a risk people shouldn't have to take. I want to be able to ride and enjoy it. I don't want to have to worry about my life being in danger and not be able to have fun. This lack of repect is just sad. Some people just ruin it for everyone. Very sad.

Anonymous said...

lori, you are understandable but like i said earlier your never gonna get EVERYBODY to stay in their lane and sorry you lost a loved one to someone who doesnt care but your never gonna stop it. and i apologize for bieng rude earlier but vance just made me angry and i resulted in bieng a smart ass but i still think that vance is a little fruit cake

Anonymous said...

as for vance you cant tell me when to go because the last time i checked the road wasnt yours or is it. and i never gave you any threats of physical violance about anything and dont tell me to step back because niether one of us have seen each other personally all i want to say now is that next time you post a comment understand that everyone has their own style of enjoying the gap and dont be so selfish with the road. and if i wanted to put my balls in your mouth i would. but i dont swing that way.
tell lori that i couldnt make it today but next time we decide to go i will post it so that we can have our little chat.

you can enjoy the gap without putting other people's lives at risk..they didn't go up there to have some moron come into their lane and wreck into them and possibly kill them. no-one goes up there thinking...hey i think i will go kill someone today..however when people start crossing the double yellow in blind curves you are no longer putting your life on the line but you are also putting someone else's life on the line and no-one up there has that right..and if you or anyone else disagrees with that, go take it up with your local law enforcement, i'm sure they can clear up the situation

My first time checking this site out, Big thumbs up.

Now the sad part, Dips like donnie and the other jerks who don't know how to stay in their lane make me want to throw things too.

If you have to ride in the other lane then you probably can't handle the bike, and should SLOW down. Fast is fun But fast and stupid can hurt....ME

Donnie,

You need a reality check. What you fail to realize is that when you begin riding your motorcycle like an out of control idiot you are infringing on everyone elses right to enjoy a safe ride. In case you hadnt noticed, people dont respond well to such actions. If you plan on coming out to the Gap and riding like a jackass you had better be prepared to deal with a pissed off group of motorists at bare minimum, and any further action that is necessary to keep wreckless squids off of the road. This is not a game. Peoples lives are at stake. Get your head on straight or leave it parked in the garage.

Anonymous said...

There should be an IQ test to purchase a motorcycle.

Anonymous said...

for the anonymous guy and to tyler, maybe both of you need to take the I.Q. test. and the anonymous guy you like to talk smack dont you, i bet i can handle a bike as good as i can handle your girlfriend. if you wouldnt of thrown any thing we wouldnt be having this little conversation now would we.
well vance when i go to the gap maybe we can ride together and ill prove to you that i can stay ahead of any of you and still stay in my lane and by the way to the two anonymous dick heads i never said that i wouldnt stay in my lane i just said that not everybody likes to. pay attention next time.

Anonymous said...

I think the guy is the definition of squid, and the jacket doesn't mean you can ride!!

Anonymous said...

Anone else happen to think that 'Donnie' might be the rider? What a total lack of safety, regard for fellow riders and common sense. If you are going to straighten out a road, then stay on the interstates.

Vance, Lori, Tyler...ya'll, as always are spot on with your words, and pictures! My hats off to ya'll for trying to make it enjoyable for everyone else.

Ride your own ride, and ride safely. If I come around a corner, and you are in my lane, I WILL turn around and chase you down to set you straight. Probs with that? Can't miss me...come have words with me and I'' set ya' straight.

Hey Guys (Tyler, Boomer, and the other nameless guys), BIG THANKS for the support!!

After much discussion with Darryl on the matter, we have come to this conclusion. This Donnie character is only trying to get people mad, thus he isn't worth getting mad over. It is just a waste of time to deal with him. No matter what we say he is just gonna keep on and on. I for one am done messing with him. All that he is doing is, and I am quoting Donnie here, he is "talking smack".

Donnie said "I never said that i wouldn't stay in my lane i just said that not everybody likes to." My question to Donnie is that if you are in deed a safe rider, staying in your lane, then why do you defend the people that drive in the wrong lane??? It seems that you should be as upset about this as the rest of us, why stand up for the guy???

Yeah I know that not everyone cares, BUT there are a lot of us that DO. If we all stand up to these people that put us in danger, then maybe the word will get out that it isn't ok to ride/drive like that at the gap.

I for one am tired of sitting back and not doing anything about it. Last weekend I had, had enough! The guy also pictured on the site in the S2000 had crossed the line the last time. As Darryl mentioned I had a talk with the guy at the Overlook. I made it clear that what he was doing wasn't ok, and all the bikers at the overlook backed me up. I told him that we wanted him to come to the gap and drive and have a good time, but we don't want anyone, including him, to get hurt or killed in the process. After that he was very respectful of the road and other riders/drivers. I made my point and stayed calm about it, no curse words or other hateful were said. I even shook his hand before I left and thanked him for understanding. So big thumbs up to him.

So Donnie what are you going to do when someone be it car or bike hits you or almost hits you? Are you just going to let him go and complain about him and what a a$$hole he was? Or are you going to do something about it? I just want to know what you would do and why you spend so much time defending these people.

And your apology is accepted for being rude. Atleast you did apologize and I can respect that. Thanks

first of all for all of your information i am not the rider so to all of you anomymous assholes ya'll need to get off my balls.to the first anonymous guy you must be a squid to know the definition of sqiuid.and no the jacket doesn't mean i can ride because thats not me. to boomer your not going to do sh*t buddy. so why do you have to talk smack man i dont even know you i would like to see you try to straighten me out.why dont you grow up man honestly, you're probably a little sixteen y/o trying to act like the superhero you need to stop wetting the bed. and change your name, what kind of name is boomer thats somthing i would name a dog . lori , i agree with all that. all im saying is that that not every body stays in there lane. im not saying its right but all im saying is that every one has the right to ride the way they want and by riding that way may have consequences some might be car accedents and some might be tickets or citations i never said it was right and iwasnt really standig up for the rider i was just implementing that he has the right to ride how he wants just like tyler, vance, you and any one else who rides at the gap does.i just think it's wrong that you're trying to tell everyone how to ride. and i know you're doing it for a reason but not everyone has to ride the way ypu want them.and for the question you asked me i'm going to let you know my answer to it..... i would catch up to them and let them know that they were wrong and if he had a problem with that we could settle it.and thanks for accepting my apollogy.

Donnie said" i just think it's wrong that you're trying to tell everyone how to ride. and i know you're doing it for a reason but not everyone has to ride the way you want them."

I don't see it as me "telling" them to ride the way I want them to, ya know that it IS against the LAW to cross that line. Why else is it there??? It is put there for safety, that is why there are passing zones marked so that you are allowed to go into that other lane.

Donnie said "every one has the right to ride the way they want and by riding that way may have consequences"

And I have the right to my life. I have the right to want to live to get married and grow old, don't I?? And NO ONE and I mean NO ONE has the right to take these things from me. There is just so much loss of respect these days. And well as long as I am alive I will fight these people who think that it is ok to endanger me, my loved ones and friends. I know that I might not be able to stop them all, but at least I can say I took a stand. You may not like me telling people how to ride, but to me it is teaching them respect. I am sure they would be the first ones to complain if someone almost took them out and talk about how wrong it is. Sometimes it just takes a reminder to do the right thing.

Last year on the foothills parkway there was an older couple on a Goldwing killed. A van crossed into their lane and hit them head on. That was someones grandparents, someones parents. Now some kids are going to grow up not knowing their grandparents, all because someone was driving the way they wanted to drive. And the person in the van is still alive. It just burns me that the guy in the van is ok and the grandparents are dead. It isn't ok, it isn't alright. This is why i fight this so hard.

If I can get through to one person, only one person, to me that makes a difference. Beacuse that is one less people endangering others and themself. I am sure later in life he will be thankful, it may very well have saved his life.

yep yer right, i'm a fruitcake and you would stay way out in front of me on the gap..because i definately wouldn't want to be near you. you are here condoning that one guy's actions and that makes you just as bad as that guy. there is a time and place for showboating on a bike, at the gap is not that time or place..parking lots..EMPTY roads..and the like are good for that, not the gap during peak hours on a weekend

Hey Donnie. Guess what, that's my name too. Come up to the Gap April 1st. We'll have a good ride. I'll stay in my lane and so will you and we'll enjoy the road and be safe. If not, don't stop. Cause I will beat every tooth out of your face and leave you on the side of the road while we push your bike off the mountain. I won't give you a chance to take out one of my friends or love ones. Don't beleive me? Come up April 1st. But if we're all cool hell, come on back with us and we'll have a cookout and drink a few beers.
To everyone else, keep up the good job. Changing just one opinion could save a life and that is worth it all. Thank you Lori and Darryl.

Well When i learned to drive....... I think it was in the book, wait i am not.......yeah it is there it is. We drive on the Right side of the road. Guys please dont let this Go. I shoot guns and if this guy was making the rules, people would be shooting from every direction you could think of all becuase he wouldent be able to come to the realazation of death. This dude is obviously very young. Note the childish comments about his balls, I mean come on. I only get to go to the dragon like once a month because i live in AL. But when i do I want to stay in my lane and i want others to stay in theirs. If they wan to to play Russian Roulette
fine with me but i dont want to play.

let me tail you something i live on the lake and u wont to drive like you will never make it up on the gap!!

Everyone is bitching about the lane crossing (and they should be) But what about the speeding and passing cars at the last second. Isnt anyone going to mention that. Some of us were up there last year and some moron came flying around a corner to hot and crossed into our lane and hit the last guy in our group. Every weekend some moron will coming flying up on you and push you over to try to pass the person in front of you. People like that are in the same boat as the lane crossers. Last time I looked 129 was a public road not a race track and they dont give out thropies at the store. You can look on the internet and see several videos of the gap and people riding crazy with other people around. What about these people? Dont get me wrong I like to ride at a good pace but theres a time and place for it and its not on the road with other bystandards where they can get hurt from your own hairbrain actions.

thats it im tired of arguing with all of you. im just going to pay little attention to this problem and if anybody has any thing to say about the way im going to ride, wheather im driving good or not. when i go to the gap yall can stop me and straighten me out (if you'll can). so lets just drop this topic and and look at the rest of this pictures because im tired of hearing everyone bitch about the guy in the picture not staying in his lane. And like i said earlier im not the driver.... so stop bitching at me all im doing is telling everyone that he has the right to ride the way he want AND THAT IS ALL IM SAYING . so all of us just drop it and move on.

I'm afraid the "problem" goes a little deeper than this website. I'm just showing what goes on in the real world, good and bad. Any interactive website is going to have critics, you just have to let is slide Donnie. Resorting to cursing and personal attacks just doesn't do much for your argument.

I haven't had much to say in this because frankly, anyone who thinks people have the right to ride however they want, even if it means driving into oncomming traffic and running folks off the road, is probably beyond the scope of reason. Maybe you'll come around, maybe you won't, but sadly, it'll probably take something besides all this text to make a change in your case.

Hi guys,

Nice site. One quick comment. Donnie seems so adamant that people have the "right" to drive any way they want, and quite frankly that just isn't true. You don't have the "right" to drive at all. It's a privilidge that you've been granted. Screw up and it will be taken away just as easily as you got it. There is no "right" to drive like that. The priviledge of driving or riding on public roads is granted under the conditions set forth by LAW. In otherwords, LAW governs how you are ALLOWED to drive. Now with that said most people break those laws regularly by speeding etc. however on a road like the gap, some element of common sense and respect for others who share the road is a neccessity.

Stop throwing rights out there...because you don't have the right to ride like that. No one does. Your argument has no basis in fact.

Anyone that thinks that lane crossing and so forth is just a choice that each rider should make, that only affects you, should read the story at the beginning of this link:

http://forum.svrider.com/viewtopic.php?t=38989&start=0

...and imagine how the other bikers, the SUV driver who was minding her own business, and the crying children in the other vehicles that witnessed the accident are affected by one rider's "decision" to ignore traffic laws (and possibly the laws of physics as well).

Responsible riders can't stop all irresponsible riding behavior, but most of us feel that for the sake of our sport, we have to try.
