Weekly Update - November 18th, 2009
Hey folks! As always, photos from the last six years are available in Our Store here. These are some of the highlights from last week.
Well it has been unseasonably warm and sunny lately, and the road has been clear of traffic for the most part. Saturday and Sunday saw a typical increase, but still tolerable.
This past Monday TDOT grooved the center line of 129 from Hwy411 to the 20 mile marker at the lakes. It's unclear if they're going to continue down the remaining 20 miles on through the Gap and to the state line. We'll keep you posted if we find out anything. Jack got a few shots yesterday:
Also, Lori, me and some friends will be heading to Charlotte Sunday for the Street Wise Drift finals, autocross, and car show at Lowes Motor Speedway.
Hope to see some of you there. On to the highlights!

Those grooves on the Dragon would SUCK!!! Hope they stop right where they are. But I guess that would make people stay away from the yellow.
Note of caution...drifters do not buy photos no matter how good they are. Most of the cars are junk and not worth the digital pixels.
What is the point of grooving the lines?
Seems like an awfully high price to pay for making a mistake as easy to make as running just a bit wide. Makes it a little harder to pass the really slow stuff, too. All this if they continue south that is.
wow those will make running wide in the turns and using both lanes realy anoying and unsafe. I may just have to start keeping to the right of the double yellow line.
you don't think maybe that is the point?
TDOT needs to re-think this, it looks like they are going to make the road much more dangerous than it already is.Can you imagine hitting that on a chopper with a springer front end?
Yo KB,
I'll probably cya there!
A lot of our roads down here, Gulf Coast, have these grooves cut on the shoulder to warn sleepy drivers that they're drifting off the pavement. I've crossed them hundreds of times on my bike, at various speeds, and have never really noticed them, other than a rumbling noise. They just might stop some of the lane crossing by distracted drivers but, unfortunately, won't stop the a**holes who just don't care.
THOSE GROOVES ARE FOR TEXTERS.....
I HOPE THEY HEAR THE SOUND, LOOK UP AT WHERE THEIR VEHICLE IS GOING,
THEN THEY CAN CORRECT,AND GO BACK TO TEXTING!
In my neck of the woods in Va. the DOT seems to be forming a trend of grooving entire lanes of pavement where sharper turns lie. The grooves arent this deep - as the guy says above, we use them on the side of Interstates, but they have been grooving entire lanes none the less. I would rather have the grooves on the lines where I'm not meant to be riding anyway, rather than have the entire lane grooved. As I stated, the grooves arent this deep and I have yet to lose any traction because of it - so far, but the grooves are definitely enough to make it feel a bit uneasy especially if you arent used to them!
Why don't they put a 6 inch deep groove in the middle of the yellow stripes? Or some spikes that flatten your tires? I am sick of folks that come over onto my side, this ain't tricycles on the playground kiddies. Maybe a giant razor blade in the middle to show you how much of your fat ass was over on my side!
