70 or 71 Datsun 510...hard to tell without the bumper guards. I had a 72 1200coupe...SCCA ready...the good ole days

I had a '72 Datsun 510 and that thing would out-corner just about anything on the road. The fully independant rear suspension and low centre of gravity made it a blast in the turns. Pity the engine was gutless.

Guessed it was Dat-son! Forgot the 3-digit "510" tho.

Awesome lil' cars for their time - fer sure!

Yeah they were. You could do all sorts of strange stuff to 'em and they still run. Tough ole buggers. Milled the head .100, rejetted the Hiatachi carb and could beat the 1500 510's with my lil 1200... great fun that!!

Wow, talk about memory lane! That was what I drove in high school back in the 70's and it was bulletproof! I was surprised as hell to see a 510 featured here!

Sheesh.. I used to work for a Datsun dealer. I had a 1200, a 710, and an 810 (Maxima predesessor) All of them served me well.

Marketed as "the poor man's BMW (2002 because it had IRS and decent weight distribution). As Dom DeLuise said in History of the World, "Nice. Nice...not THRILLING, but nice..."

Put an aftermarket rear bar on my '72 to dial out some of the (mucho) understeer. But it still had stock positive static camber in the IRS. So as the cornering load went up in the rear, the grip went down.

NO WAY would it stay with a BMW 2002 in the twisties. I tried but the Munich Dargons always slayed me. By far the best value-for-money in a small car in it's era, though.

This one might be lowered a tad--for sure, the rear end has been de-cambered. Fun on the Dragon!
