Not like I can say much...

Lost the front-end last week in a right-hander and slid right across the oncoming lane of traffic and down the bank.

If anything had been coming I would have taken them out or been run over, so I deserve NO sympathy...give me hell just like anyone else.  The reason for posting stuff like this and the lane crossing is to try and educate ourselves and others to minimize collisions.

I learned that a somewhat worn front tire combined with a good rear tire, combined with probable low inflation pressures can lead to a catastrophic front slide at lean when on the throttle...essentially what amounts to a tiny wheelie while leaned over.  My first sign of trouble was a sudden increase of drag on my knee...as if I had gone from plastic pucks (which I was wearing) to leather pucks.  Then the bike separated from my body and I was sliding down the road.  I guess it's somewhat fortunate that I was near the exit of the turn, so I slid more down the road than shooting straight off the side.  I left the road without slowing down much, and flew through the air for a moment before landing on the downslope of the bank ass-first, and tumbling to a stop about 30-40 feet down.  The bike tumbled on a different trajectory, with more trees, and ended up about 50 feet down, frame broken in 2.

I'm doing fine though, still a little bruised and sore on the back of my right hip, but leathers and back protector did the trick...this time.  Let's all be as careful as we can out there and still have fun.

Found out late yesterday...2 broken valves, 3 bent valves, damaged head, hole in one piston. No damage to block or cylinder walls. On the prowl for a used head now. =(

I call dibs on Lori and the pups for next time!!!!

:P

Glad you made it out ok. As it's been said in the past..."bikes can be replaced, good people can't."

But out of curiosity, did Lori put on the nurses outfit for you? :D

It's easier to figure out what went wrong after the fact. It is true wisdom to figure it out before. Glad you are ok and that no one else was hurt. I know how you would feel if this wreck caused someone else injury.

At least you figured out the cause, I know it doesn't help the ego, body or wallet but you took something away that hopefully helps next go around.

Sorry to hear about the bike, I know I have talked with you before and Kevin spoke very highly of you. If you need anything just ask

Did you let Phil ride your bike?

Sorry about the bike KB. Like K03gsxr750 said though, you can always replace the bike. Glad you're OK man, it could have been much worse leaving the road like that.

Killboy, it's great to hear that you're still in good condition.

Be aware of your tires before you go for the aggressive rides.

Doesn't Wheeler give you a discount?

Your deffinately not the only one this sorta thing has happened too.

I learned about the dangers of front tire wear on War Woman road. Almost went down a 100 foot bank. Ever since then I changed the front with the back. No matter how good it looks.

I am Thankful nobody got hurt.

Now you just have an excuse to get another bike.

Lucky you !!!

Damn, broke Gsxr and broke Evo? You gotta be hurting in more ways than one.. hate to hear man. Glad you're okay though.

"I learned..." Most will never get this far therefore they will never improve or change.
I'm glad to hear you're OK. As it's been said, bikes can be replaced.

Glad you're Ok, do you have pic's of the front tire for comparison of the low tread condition so others can see?

Well...since you asked for it, and since nobody else will do it:

You're an idiot for overextending yourself on a public road. You shame folks weekly, then go and do the same thing yourself. Practice what you preach.

There. I said it. That said, I think you're a standup fella, and love your weekly blog.

I think there is a HUGE difference in a total wipeout vs. the idiots that go over the line CONSTANTLY, car or bike.

You're right hognada. It's a big difference. On the edge -vs- OVER THE LINE!

Glad you're ok KB!

I tried over a year ago to get a little more lean angle while the front was unloaded, hurt like hell. I have much empathy for you. It took me a long time to remember/undertand what happened to me.

Lesson learned. It will never happen again.

Erik: No pics, although I could get them I suppose. Nothing special really...just getting down to almost no tread showing on the sides, but still a little. I've ridden front tires all the way down to cord on the sides with no real drama.

Wow, glad you're okay. Heal fast!

Tires are cheaper than bikes. Air is free.

Some folks will do anything for a hot nurse.

Maybe you should try stuntin? Come on by KOTS this weekend at 411.

Darryl,
Glad you are OK.
Most of my toys are busted right now and I know how bad it sucks.

Did a day at Jennings in February. I'm getting too old to bounce.
Feel better and be glad you have such a great wife to nurse you back to health.
