Weekly Update - May 28, 2008

Photos from last week are available in Our Store here. These are just some of the highlights. We're still sorting Sunday's shots at this time, so those will be online shortly and the highlights from Sunday will be included in next week's update.

Probably the busiest weekend so far this year, Memorial Day holiday combined with excellent weather brought out the bikes and cars in remarkable numbers. You'd never guess there was a fuel crunch going on! We heard rumors AGAIN of a massive police presence, even caught wind of a few THP warning riders they would have THREE helicopters out there Saturday, but things were fairly calm on the enforcement front. I'm not sure if the stories were just fabricated by the riders I spoke to, or our government officials were spreading misinformation to discourage tourism.

Traffic on Saturday and Sunday was very heavy mid-day, with very few accidents, again proving that this is a remarkably safe place to ride considering the ratio of bikes to accidents. Where else can you throw several thousand bikes into one small area and not have people getting plowed over by SUVs? (Daytona anyone?) There were 2 life flights off of the Skyway, mostly due to the remote nature, and one flown out from a wreck at Fugitive Dam, just south of the Dragon.

This weekend we'll see the ClubHonda (cars) and Ducati Monster groups. Hope everyone has a good time out there...on to the highlights!
