Random Update - August 1, 2012

So I've been sitting here trying to come up with something to say for 10 minutes. Updating this blog on top of our Facebook page is getting silly. Just FYI, I'm updating that vile Facebook page way more often than I ever did here.

Weekly Update - July 4, 2012

Whoo whoo!  Yes we're still alive for all you steadfast Facebook holdouts.  Last couple of weeks have been kinda nuts, we double-covered the Hillclimb and the Gap, and I've been working on a an article for Super Streetbike magazine.  Tonight we ran over to the TN side of the Dragon to catch some fireworks and now I'm here to finish this update.

To report on the goings on around the area, it has been HOT!  But hey, that's summer.  Also it storms at the end of almost every day...again, typical summer.  Traffic has died off a little bit, people avoiding the heat I presume, but it sure feels good out there in the evenings and at night. (hint hint)

No groups in particular on the calendar this weekend, but there will be a party/celebration/fiddy racing down at the Deals Gap resort Saturday night with reportedly some VIP visitors on-hand, so come on out if you can!

Weekly Update - June 20, 2012

Not quite as busy last weekend as the rumors were predicting, but still average traffic.  Had a couple serious accidents Saturday...a sportbike vs. truck (rider ok) and a cruiser off the road around mile marker 8, resulting in the second fatality this year, the first being a cruiser off the road only a couple of weeks ago.  Our condolences to their friends and family...let's take it easy out there folks, no more of that please.

This weekend is the first of two SCCA "Chasing the Dragon" hillclimbs at nearby Maple Spring Overlook Road near Joyce Kilmer Forest/Cherohala Skyway this year. (another in September)  It's a dead-end road that they close off for the two day event and run race cars up the 2.2 mile section competing for times.  It's open to spectators so come check it out if you get the chance!  We'll be there with our usual crew getting plenty of photos and videos for you and the participants.  Here's a preview video we shot last year:

Weekly Update - June 13, 2012

Conditions have been really great out, surprising to me considering how warm our winter was...I thought for sure we'd be burning up by now.  Had a few groups in the area...R1/R6 guys, SV riders, etc. last week.  This week/weekend is the big Combat Veterans Nationals at Fontana Village, and the Cherohala Challenge annual bicycle ride across the Dragon and then over the Cherohala Skyway is Saturday.  They should all be off the Dragon by noon, so give them some space and check out the show if you're around Saturday morning...there are some very fit individuals if ya know what I mean...say no more, say no more.

...complete with captions for every photo and easier browsing/commenting than ever before.  Plus we were able to get out today and get shots of the Venus/Sun transit and sunset, which I am about to start working on for highlights. (We normally couldn't do anything on Tuesdays and most of Wednesday before switching the highlights over to Facebook)

Last week was a little slower...we had a couple of minor get-offs...one broken ankle around mile marker 2 on a cruiser.  This week/weekend there are several groups on Tha Calendar, and Fiddy racing Saturday night at the Deals Gap resort, so stop by and enjoy some carnage...I mean, good clean racing. :)

Ok this week I managed to whittle the highlights down to 200 photos, but that's about double the usual number and I just do not have 12-14 hours to post them individually here.  I hope you can forgive me...last weekend was crazy and this Memorial Day weekend is probably going to be even busier.  You can view the highlights this week on our Facebook Page by clicking here or the photo below.
