Oh Noes!

Gap regular Sara had to stand by and watch her Corrado go up in flames yesterday on the Dragon. She is ok and I heard there were some valiant efforts to retrieve a few items from inside the car by Phast Phil via large rock! (thnx "Warrior Mike" for the pic, and Sara for being a good sport) No more making fun of my fire extinguisher!

We're just getting back from spending a week at my mom and dad's new place over in eastern NC. We've got a new "feature" going over there on the right menu...it's photos we take with our camera phones and upload from nearly anywhere. We'll try to keep them coming! Posted by Picasa

So, what's the story behind the fire? Did she crash or did the VeeDub spontaneously combust?

Sara is a friend of mine. She posted on Ncdubs.com this message

"it didnt just catch on fire.. the motor was the last to go.. i was out on the mountain .. and my radiator hose blew..so coolant was every where.. and it just caught underthe car in the leaves... so i watched it burn for 2 hours.. while i could do nothing.."

That sucks. My SHO+ suffered a small electrical fire in my driveway last year. I had just used all three of my extinguishers in the garage on a dumpster fire some kids had started a few nights earlier. Luckily, the hose was handy before it got out of control.

Anyway, good luck with getting a replacement, Sara. And Darryl, be sure to put up some happier pics of Sara in the future - she's very easy on the eyes. ;)

That's a bad deal with Sara's car. Don't I recognize her from Motortopia?

I have been watching all your cell phone pics roll in.

OBTW, What did the folks at Best Buy do to deserve the middle finger?

Sorry kid! Tomorrow will be better, but why didn't the fire department / rescue / police respond?

brian a: Yeah she's "Intoxicating" on Motortopia. Hope you like the phone shots. ;) The finger to Best Buy was just a joke for my friend Josh (blue Evo/black Rx-7) since he works there.

Jeff: It's hard to get a call out at the Gap...gotta drive about 20 minutes away to get decent signal. Even then, the closest fire department is about 45 minutes away.

Sad thing to have to sit and watch your car burn. 8-(

Darryl...what kind of phone do you have? It sure takes better pics than my Moto!

brake.fade: Lori and I picked up a couple of LG "enV" phones. Kinda slow to focus/shoot, but decent for what they are.

I'll say this...the girl knows how to dress for a crash and burn.

Bummer. Hopefully it'll work out that she gets decent wheels to replace the loss. At least she wasn't hurt.

Sara when my Honda Sabre
(http://www.motortopia.com/vehicles/view/p/bikes/v/2235/i/sabre)
went up in flames, it was an out of body experience. But I didn't get burned and got to eat at the firehall with the crew that put it out. It is one of my greatest motorcycle stories. You'll never get tired of telling this one.

I had a '92 Corrode-0, what a love-hate relationship that was. It's really sad to see that sight, but there were times I would've liked to see mine holding a column of smoke up. Like when I spent those 18 hours under the hood replacing the main wiring harness that melted all over itself. Or when it decided to dump all its coolant into the cabin when I was 5 hours from home. Or when the head gasket blew. It may be the only cage that makes owning an RX-7 look rational. :)

I've gotta buy an extinguisher. A couple of weeks ago a car caught fire in front of me on the road. I had to borrow one from a trucker to put it out.
I went through Navy shipboard firefighting school. You'd think I'd know better.
