Today is a historic milestone...

They're only up on the NC side for now, but it's a start.  One day in the distant future we will hopefully be telling incredible tales of how oversize vehicles used to freely pass through one of the most confining, twisted, and medically-remote stretches of roadways in the nation.  RIP Ike.

Good work N.C.

Pretty poor use of tax dollars to have 4 full-time (168 man hours/wk)
officers just to patrol the dragon... plus expenses!

It says, "Forget Protect & Serve, We're out for revenue".

Now if TN would put up the signs telling the southbound trucks that they are prohibited in NC.

It breaks my heart seeing RIP Ike. Knowing something could have been done long ago, but now we have more hope that others don't get hurt by those trucks. It takes a life to save a life.. I hope in this case that it saves many lives. I love you Ike... I love the dragon. I love Deals gap.

If a motor-home pulling a Jeep, can stay (mostly) in his lane, then a 30 ft tractor-trailer can too. The big loads that need to get through for local delivery can be escorted.

Killboy does a nice job of policing the rest of us with digital peer pressure.

WATCH THOSE KB VIDEOS, 4-wheel drivers!!!! Especially "Chasing Jay." Slow in, fast out-with strict lane discipline. Courtesy for slower AND faster drivers and riders. That's the way you do it. Can't guarantee money for nothing and chicks (or dudes) for free, but you will enjoy many drama-free passes on a GREAT drive...

Was behind 2 tractor trailers coming from NC today they must have missed the signs.

Three full size trucks came thru today from NC. Sign is probably too small, they just blow past it.
Can you enforce a 'NC only' ordinance once they successfully cross into TN.

They need a turn around just past the sign, so the driver can actually make a change. This should have been done long ago; now the highway needs to be removed from truck-specific GPS programs.

@Mike, that particular sign is situated so that the drivers can easily turn onto NC-143 from NC-28 and avoid the truck restriction. It's about a mile south of 143. When I passed that sign, I had to turn around on 143 to take that picture.

Don't count on Tennessee reciprocating any time soon...their governor's family owns Pilot and Flying J fuel stations, which cater to commercial trucks.
