In all the "escort" pics I have seen sportbikes, standards, motards, adventure, and dual-purpose motorcycles, but never a "cruiser".
Question, please. Has a cruiser ever been spotted escorting trucks?
add touring bikes to "been seen" escorting list above.
Once or twice in ten years...kinda the point I'm trying to make by always mentioning the type of bike...these are usually the ones that get fingers pointed at them for riding SOOO dangerously, and they're usually the only ones taking the time to do something in the name of rider safety.
Its like that because the trucks are faster.
Well, just for the record I actually did escort this one on my ol' Road King all the way to the cavity where he got twisted and hung for quite awhile.... Blount finally showed up and continued the escort. Jack said he had a shot of it but I couldn't find it. Had a pretty good traffic jam behind him!

Very cool! :)
Are most of the escorts locals or folks who regularly ride the Dragon? If so, that might explain the lack of cruisers and tourers. If you are local, doing escort duty doesn't impact your day as much as you might lose one out of 10 round trips.
It would be logical that most cruisers and tourers are folks that are on vacation and only have a limited amount of time on the Dragon. 1, maybe 2 runs at most.
This isn't meant as an excuse but it might provide some perspective. It's a good thing that any of you offer your time for escort duty and it is much appreciated.
Nope, "touring bikes" are on the "been seen escorting" list, as I noted above.
So, out of sportbikes, standards, motards, adventure, dual-purpose, cruisers and touring motorcycles, that leaves only the cruiser as a "not been seen escorting".
I'm curious as to why, out of *all* those motorcycle types, (cept touring), cruiser riders would more likely be "on vacation" ?
Its possible cruiser riders might be more apt to have a passenger aboard but that doesn't account for the big difference. I would suspect that a bike weighing several hundred pounds less than the typical cruiser would have a much easier time with the required slow speeds & starting/stopping associated with escorting.
